How to Draw A Panther – Let's Get Started!
Step 1
In this first step of our guide on how to draw a panther, we will be focusing on the top of the animal.
Using a curved line, we will be drawing the top of the head, and this will extend to the neck and back before moving on to the curvy tail of the panther.
Once you have this line drawn, then you can draw the front of the face. Then, you can draw some details such as the eyes, nose and start of the mouth. That will finish off this step, and you're ready to move on!
Step 2 – Start the back leg and finish the tail
You have the outline for the top of your panther drawing done, so now we shall start to add some details in this part.
First, use another curved line to finish off the tail. Then, from the base of the tail you can extend another curved line to make up the back of the leg. At the bottom of this leg will be four curved lines for the toes.
Step 3 – Next, finish off the back legs
In this step of our guide on how to draw a panther, you will be finishing off the back legs of the animal.
Using the line that you drew to start the back leg in the previous step, you can extend another line coming up from the paw.
The leg will get a bit thicker as it becomes the thigh higher up. Then, you can use some more curved lines to form the belly of the panther.
Finally, you can draw the other back leg. It will look very similar to the previous one, but will be further forward to show the panther walking.
Step 4 – Draw another leg for the panther
Your panther drawing is starting to look great already! Continuing on, we will be drawing the first front leg in this step.
The lower half of this leg will look quite similar to the lower halves of the back legs, but it will be shorter than those ones were.
That's all you need for this step, and in the next one we will finish off the final details before coloring in your drawing!
Step 5 – Now, you can finish off the final details of your panther drawing
This fifth step of our guide on how to draw a panther will be all about finishing off the drawing to have you ready for some coloring fun!
The first thing to do in this step will be to draw the final leg. You've drawn three already, and while this leg will be similar to the others, it will be a bit different due to the angle it is at.
This leg will be raised a bit to further illustrate that this panther is walking around.
Once you have that leg drawn, you can finish off the face and head. To do this, you can draw a small ear for it first.
Then, you will draw the jaw which will extend to the mouth filled with sharp teeth. There will then be some minor details to add to the face and body to really finish it off.
That will do it for the details in this guide, but before you move on you can also add some of your own!
Perhaps you could draw a background to show what kind of environment this panther is stalking in. what creative touches can you think of to finish off this drawing of yours?
Step 6 – Finish off your panther drawing with some color
This final step of your panther drawing is the one where you get to have some fun coloring in your drawing!
Panthers typically have a rich black coloring, and that is what we went for in our reference image.
You may think that this coloring limits you in how you can color in your drawing, but there are ways that you can bring some more color variation to the drawing!
One of the best ways that you could go about doing this would be with the background. If you drew a background for this drawing, then that would give you the opportunity to add some bright and beautiful colors.
You could also draw some tropical birds around the panther for even more color!
Once you have the elements that you will be coloring in, you can also have some fun experimenting with your favorite art mediums to really bring the colors to life. We can't wait to see how you creatively finish off this drawing!

For this panther sketch, we showed it at a profile angle. If you wanted to personalize it, you could change the pose a little.
For instance, maybe the head could be turned to face the viewer. This could be a bit tricky to do from your imagination, but you could use photos of real panthers online to help.
What other changes could you make to the design?
The panther is a largely solitary creature, but you could add a friend for it to make this drawing of a panther even better!
Now that you know how to draw a panther, you can add another beside it and change a few details. Maybe it would be fun to add a few panthers to the page!
Another way you can populate this panther sketch would be by adding other animals as well. There are so many other animals you could add!
Panthers tend to live in forest environments, so you could add parrots, monkeys or other big cats. These are just a few examples, but what other animals could you add to this artwork you have created?
The panther is very similar to animals such as the jaguar or the leopard. If you love these animals as well, you could turn this panther into one of them!
Instead of the pure black fur of the panther, these animals are golden with a spotted pattern. You can look up the pattern online if you need some help adding it to the fur.
You could even have a regular black panther with a spotted jaguar, for one idea!
Finally, it could be fun to finish off this panther drawing with a background. We mentioned earlier that panthers come from forest environments, but they can also be found in jungles.
These are if you want to portray the panther in its natural habitat, but you could also show it in a zoo or a circus setting. What other background ideas do you have?
